Creative Evangelism Forum Chair Notes

Well, hope you got something out of the forum. Here are my initial notes:

What is evangelism? Is it toast? Is it a blanket? An unexpected hug? A rebuke?

Or is it just talking about Jesus?

Who gets to define it, the speaker or the listener, the giver or the receiver? Or neither?

What is better? a gospel story that you think is marked with awkward pauses, apologetic missteps and poorly quoted scripture, but which the listener comprehends and grasps

or

an elegant, eloquent, epic story spoken and emphasised perfectly that the listener doesn’t feel, understand, connect with

Creativity in evangelism without love [and urgency] is marketing, performance art and astute social commentary

Here’s a wee list of the books I referred to during the forum. I’m sure these different authors would disagree passionately with each other on many details, but I believe they all love the Lord of Lords:

  1. The Raggamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning [not Bernard Manning!]
  2. Searching For Truth: Confessing Christ in an Uncertain World by Thomas W Currie III
  3. One Thing You Can’t Do In Heaven by Mark Cahill
  4. The Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert Coleman
  5. Reimagining Evangelism by Rick Richardson
  6. The Way of the Master by Ray Comfort

You might find some marketing, art and craftiness, uber coolness and dorkiness within these sites, but I hope you find some truly valuable material too.

These guys make me think broader and deeper – all three are creative ambassadors of Jesus:
